A CDA is a Child Development Associate credential awarded and operated by The Council for Professional Recognition (www.cdacouncil.org). "Focusing on the skills of early child care and education professionals, the program is designed to provide performance based training, assessment, and credentialing of child care staff, home visitors, and family child care providers. The CDA Program represents a national effort to credential qualified early childhood educators who work with children from birth through age 5."

  4. Application and Assessment Fee submittedto the CDA Council ($425.00) **REQUIRED (GEORGIANS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP TO COVER THIS FEE. PLEASE CHECK the bottom center of this and every other page in this website. Print and fill out the application and send to the Scholarship Program.
  5. Choose a Professional Development Specialist (PDS) from the CDA Council website. **REQUIRED
  6. Meet with your PDS who will examine your portfolio, observe you in a classroom, check your Family Questionnaires, and reflect with you about your progress and goals. Then he/she will tell you when you are ready for your final exam.
  7. Multiple choice exam at a local testing center at a time of your choosing. **REQUIRED

Yes, the $299.00 fee must be paid in full before you can begin. You can pay using a credit or debit card through Paypal, a secure website. Alternate methods of payment (cash or money order) can be arranged.

The State of Georgia offers a scholarship for the $425.00 application and Assessment fee if you meet qualifications (see the qualifications linked at the bottom center of this and every page of this website). If you qualify, you will only have to pay $25.00 and that will be refunded to you after you receive the credential. There is also a $100.00 stipend for entering this credential in the PDR (1-866-258-7737) in addition to a $500.00 Incentives award.

All other states should check with their local child care governing body.

Yes, you can use the hours of your choice to satisfy the requirements in Georgia and in many other states.

The courses are timed so that a 1 hour course takes approximately 1 hour, 2 hour courses 2 hour, etc. The 120 hour CDA coursework will require 120 hours.

CDA renewal is a 45 hour coursework designed to satisfy the requirements for renewing a currently held CDA. The other requirements are specified at www.cdacouncil.org.

Yes, the individual classes from our CDA coursework are available through this website and are approved by Bright from the Start in Georgia and in many other states.

The cost for taking a 1 hour course is $10.00. Two or more hours can be enrolled at $8.00 per hour. Ten hour packages are available for $69.00.

After you pass each course by achieving a score of 70 or more, you can print your own certificate directly on your own printer. After you login, click on My Training. Any class that you have passed should have a symbol to the right of the class name. Click on the symbol and allow sufficient time for the new window to fill in. Then print from the browser. A certificate for the 120 hour CDA will be available when you complete all of the hours. Simply send us an email (dccsbc@gmail.com) advising us that you have finished. We will verify your completion and forward your certificate, transcript, breakdown of hours, letter of completion and further instructions via Email.
